Host Families

Welcome to SUL!

If you live in areas where we work, we are always keen to welcome new host families.
Are you interested in hosting foreign students for just a few days or up to one month?
Do you have a spare room or a spare bed in a room which is used by one of your children or another student?

The majority of our students staying in host families are aged 12 to 17 years. We also have a smaller number of adults.

We promote not only English proficiency but a greater understanding between people of different nationalities and cultures. Staying with an English speaking family is really the best way for any family and student to meet people from different backgrounds and to have the opportunity of making a real difference in others\’ lives.

If you have children it is an excellent way to encourage an interest in other languages and they may have a pen friend for years afterwards. Many of our families keep in touch with the students who stayed with them. Invitations to wedding and christenings are not unusual.

If you are newly retired, this is an excellent way to stay active and keep young!

The following is a summary of the opportunities we offer to host:-

Families for school aged children

We organise two types of student programmes requiring host family accommodation:

Holiday language courses during the school holidays organised for students who are aged 12-17 years.

We have group courses and individual courses.

Group Courses for Young Learners

Students stay from 7 nights to 27 nights in length.
Some are singles, most are in pairs, some triples.
We offer courses during October, February, April, June, July and August in most of our centres. Students stay with families who live in or close to a particular town or city. They have group activities 6 days a week from 9am-5pm.

Courses for Individuals who stay on their own with host families

We call these courses Home Language Tuition or Individual Homestay. Students stay individually with families who will have at least one adult to accompany the student during the day.

Individual Home Language Tuition

Some families have a family member qualified to teach English. Students choose to have 2 or 3 hours of One-to-one teaching per weekday.
