Plymouth Host Family Centre
Plymouth is a vibrant maritime city in the south west of England. As the major city on the border of Devon and Cornwall, it is an attractive blend of vibrant modernity and historic seafaring port.
Our host families are personally selected by our experienced Plymouth Centre Director, who looks after the groups whilst they are staying in the city.
Families provide full board accommodation for students in two, three or four students per family. Families look after the students every evening.
Educational Visits may be planned and booked by the visiting school group or by Sul.
We are able to provide a guide or escort for the visits if requested.
There is also the option formal English lessons which link the language to the educational visits, enhancing the value of the trip for all school classes.
Programme
Typical educational visits are
- In Plymouth students can see buildings from the 17th century, see the place where some of the first settlers in America set sail in the Mayflower, learn about the English Civil War, visit England’s National Aquarium, and see how the people of Plymouth survived the Second World War and re-built a thriving modern city
- Roman Exeter and Exeter Cathedral
- Victorian Morwellham Quay – experience life in Victorian days in a place where the local minerals were shipped out on the river Tamar to the industries that built the Industrial Revolution
- Torquay, Babbacombe Model Village and the beautiful naval training town of Dartmouth are all on the English Riviera on the south coast of Devon
- Kings Arthur’s Tintagel, Merlin’s cave and a ruined castle helped give rise to the many stories of England’s heroic leader, who struggled to maintain the values of chivalry after the Romans left England to the invading tribes from northern Europe.
