Cork, voted the 2005 “European Capital of Culture” is the second largest city of the Republic of Ireland after Dublin, yet the locals call it the authentic capital of the country and themselves as the authentic rebels. Cork has the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney, resulting in Cork becoming a major sea port where the river Lee meets the sea. The city has lots to offer, from the fabulous Georgian architecture, to arguably the best shopping street in Ireland. It is also a great base to visit the historical and cultural highlights of the south coast.
