Will there be internet access that I can use on my course?
Most residential colleges and host families will be able to offer all students supervised internet use for limited periods of time....
Will my child need any spending money? If so, how much will my child need?
All students like to have some pocket money for personal presents etc. Money is not required in order to fully participate in any SUL course unless specifically shown to parents before the purchase of a course....
What's the typical accommodation on a residential course?
Our accommodation normally comprises of bedrooms with singles, doubles, triples and quads. On some of our younger aged courses we occasionally use dormitories....
What should I do if my child tells me that they are not happy on their course?
They must talk to their group leader who will inform the Course Director. Together they will see all relevant persons to try and resolve this quickly. If the problem persists the parents must be consulted and further action taken....
What kind of accommodation do you use?
SUL residential courses are usually within private boarding schools which are of a high standard and offer full board accommodation. The bedrooms are usually twins, triples or quads.
Host families and home tuition accommodation will be living with a ‘typical’ English family on a full board basis....
What is the difference between host family immersion and English home tuition?
There are no funamental differences. Both are living with an English family and having English lessons with a teacher, usually a member of the family you are staying with. This is one of the most effective ways of learning English....
What is SUL doing to deal with swine flu if it occurs in one of their centres?

What is an international course?
Our international courses are full board residential living and learning with people of a similar age from different countries. We aim to get up to 5 different nationalities on our international courses....
What happens if we have to cancel?
While SUL makes every effort to limit the costs of students cancelling after the deposit has been paid and before the start of a course, the following scale of charges will apply:-
• If you notify SUL over 4 weeks before travel, SUL will retain the non-refundable deposit fee only.
• If you notify SUL 2 – 4 weeks before travel, SUL retains 50% of the total.
• If you notify SUL 2 weeks or less before the start of the course, SUL retains 100% of the total fees....
What happens if my child becomes ill?
If a student is staying in a residential college or in a host family centre becomes ill, then a member of the SUL management team will have several options. If it seems that the symptoms are mild, it is possible for the SUL team to contact the National Health Service by telephone directly for advice (NHS Direct). If the symptoms were more acute then the child can be taken to a local doctor or to the local hospital....
