  • York

York lies halfway between London and Edinburgh in North Yorkshire.
It is one of England’s finest historic cities.

It was founded by the Romans in 71AD, taken over by the Angles and then the Vikings, who gave the name Yórvík, which was changed to York by the Normans.

York is still enclosed by its medieval walls.

York became important for industries related to railways and confectionary
but most people now work in public services, education, tourism and business administration.
