The capital of Scotland since 1437, Edinburgh is one of the most important historic cities in Europe and as such was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995.

The city is one of the major European tourist destinations.  It has not only a wealth of ancient and historically important buildings but also so many cultural attractions for students of all ages, that it would be hard to see them all in two weeks. 

Accommodation is provided in one of Edinburgh’s well known private boarding schools within walking distance of the central districts of the city.

DAY ONE ARRIVAL Getting to know your family
DAY TWO English lessons Edinburgh Castle and Royal mile Explore one of the great capital cities of the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its mediaeval centre and Georgian new town.
DAY THREE English lessons National Museum of Scotland. The Elephant House café Explore Scotland’s heritage & Scotland’s contact with the world in The National Museum. The Elephant House café is where JK Rowling sat writing many of her early Harry Potter novels looking at Edinburgh Castle
DAY FOUR English lessons Stirling castle and town  Stirling is a beautiful mediaeval town with a fifteenth century castle. 
DAY FIVE English lessons The National Library or Royal Yacht Britannia Fascinating, interactive museum of writers and writing including the story of Darwin’s tortoise or visit the Queen’s Royal Yacht.
DAY SIX English lessons Arthur’s Seat and Haggis hunting & Camera Obscura Hunt for haggis on Arthur’s Seat. Spy at the city through the telescopes at the Camera Obscura which is a fascinating and amusing way to see the city and learn its history.
DAY SEVEN Glasgow day trip:  Glasgow science centre and Kelvingrove museum. See the great second city of the British Empire, Glasgow, a Victorian powerhouse and trading port. Visit the fantastic new parliament buildings.
DAY EIGHT DEPARTURE Farewell to host families.
