      Homestay

Our Holiday English Courses in host family centres are for Young Learners aged 12-17 years.
We have nearly thirty years' experience in this work, inviting visiting students to share the life of our families.
We offer courses in both South West England and South East England, as well as in the west of Ireland.

  • The Advantages of the Host Family Experience

The advantages of choosing a course in a host family centre, is to benefit both from having lessons and activities with a group of friends and from the special personal experience of living with a family in an English speaking country.

  • Enjoy the use of Community Leisure Facilties

We use local schools or colleges, tennis courts, sports halls (for volleyball, basketball & badminton), swimming pools, bowling and cinemas. We also enjoy exploring the local area including seaside resorts and well known cultural attractions.

  • Host Family Centre Directors

Our host families are carefully selected by our experienced Host Family Centre Directors, who ensure that students are happy with their families. They work together both with our English teachers & activity leaders, and the visiting group leaders. They organise the overall programme, keeping in daily contact with the Sul office.

  • English Classes

    • Every weekday morning after breakfast our students go to their English classes either by local public transport, private coach or walking depending on the local circumstance.
    • Our English classes are designed to be effective and fun. With a maximum of 15 students in a class and an average of 12, each student has the opportunity to express themselves and receive the attention they need from their teacher. Students are placed according their level after an ability test.
  • Language Skills

Our lessons are designed to improve young learners’ English language skills following the format we have developed for this specific purpose:

    • formal language work on grammar and vocabulary to improve students accuracy in expressing themselves; comprehension of written documents from both literary sources and current media
    • fluency practice in listening and speaking, based on a variety of topics of particular interest to the young learner, including the use of role plays and pair work
    • the creative use of language in student projects, designed to improve research techniques in the English speaking world, written and oral presentation skills.

These projects frequently involve experiences and research in the ‘real’ world outside the classroom, including time spent on excursions

  • Our Activity Programmes

Every afternoon after a packed lunch, our students enjoy a mixture of sports, leisure and cultural activities. There is at least one mid week excursion to a place of cultural or leisure interest.

In the evenings, students return for their meal in their host families and can then benefit from family life or meeting with local friends.

At least once a week we organise a social activity such as a disco or bowling games.

On Saturdays there are full day excursions to famous beaches or cities.

Sunday morning is a time to rest and relax with the host families. After lunch they generally take their students out to explore the local area.
