    • SUL provides Holiday English Courses in April, July and August for Young Learners in residential centres in South West and South East England.
    • Each school or college offers a unique cultural experience, with excellent academic, leisure and cultural facilities.
    • Our Young Learner courses are for Juniors aged 9-12 years or Seniors aged 13-17 years.

    The advantages of choosing a SUL residential course are:

    • Sharing a community life, learning, playing and being creative with other students of a similar age and from different cultures.
    • Students have the opportunity to speak English at all times with other students and our resident adults.
    • Teachers and group leaders give 24 hour supervision to ensure the welfare of students.

    English teaching take place every weekday morning with 4 × 45 minute lessons. Students are taught in ability groups, with an average of 12 in a class (maximum possible is 15).


    Our curriculum designed to improve young learners' English language skills following the format we have developed for this specific purpose:

    • formal grammar and vocabulary to improve students accuracy in expressing themselves; comprehension of written documents from both literary sources and current media
    • fluency practice in listening and speaking, based on a variety of topics of particular interest to the young learner, including the use of role plays and pair work
    • the creative use of language in student projects, with research, writing and presentation skills. This can involve work outside the classroom.

    • Morning lessons followed by lunch.
    • Afternoons of sport, leisure and cultural activities. There are two mid-week afternoon excursions.
    • After dinner, evenings have a busy social programme just to enjoy and develop students' creative talents.
    • On Saturdays we have all day excursions to famous beaches or cities.
    • Sundays are a time to rest and relax. Lunch follows a quiet morning in the boarding houses.
      In the afternoon we offer a programme of relaxing adventure and fun activities.
